A baby antelope had quite a day when it gained a new mom just after its old one was killed.

Photographer Adri De Visser caught the incident on film when it took place at the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, according to the Daily Mail.

The 50-year-old Dutch photographer was taking pictures of the area when he found a lion eating a dead Uganda kob.

De Visser told the Daily Mail that there was something else nearby saying, "I was watching them when I heard a noise. It was the kob's fawn that had been hiding in the long grass."

This turned out to be the mother of an antelope baby hiding nearby as it watched its mother devoured by the hungry lioness.

When the lioness had enough of the kob, it found the fawn and watched it for around 45 minutes. The lion then roared at the orphaned antelope, but it didn't move. This caused the lion to inspect the young potential prey that started moving close to the lioness's belly and attempted to feed off her milk. The confused lion then decided not to kill the defenseless animal but instead started petting it with her paw.

The fierce lion was startled by the sound of approaching park rangers on motorcycles.

"So the lioness picked the fawn up by the neck and carried it off like one of its own," said De Visser who photographed the bizarre series of events.

This may have been the antelope's lucky day, but there's not a lot to look forward to as it's likely the lioness can change her mind. For now tourists have reported that they've seen the baby and it's still alive.
