Jennifer Aniston and Chelsea Handler are close friends, but Handler said they aren't close enough for the engaged actress to ask her to be her maid of honor.

Handler chatted with "Extra" about her friend's upcoming wedding, but when asked if she would be Aniston's maid of honor, she said she doesn't expect to be asked.

"No, I'm not going to be maid of honor ... because she has other friends that she is much closer too," she said. "We are good friends, but no she's not going to ask me. No, that would be really weird."

Even though Handler won't be Aniston's maid of honor, the two are close enough that Aniston stopped by "Chelsea Lately" this week to speak publicly about her engagement to Justin Theroux for the first time.

The actress got a little teary-eyed as she discussed how happy she is in her relationship.

"I just got verklempt," Aniston said as she wiped her eyes.

Handler congratulated her on the upcoming wedding during the interview and discussed what a great match Theroux is for Aniston.

"Aw, aren't you so happy?" Handler said. "You are happy, because he's the greatest guy ever, and you guys make the greatest couple ever, and I'm so happy for you too."

The appearance on "Chelsea Lately" was also another chance for fans to get a look at Aniston's enormous engagement ring, which she hid from the paparazzi for about two months before photographers finally caught a glimpse of it.

The gigantic eight-carat diamond has drawn much fanfare, but some jewelry designers have criticized it and called it "gaudy."

"Jennifer's engagement ring is valuable, for sure, but a stone that size is not exactly sophisticated," one jewelry expert told The Daily Mail. "In fact, one might argue that it is downright gaudy. It looks like it belongs on the hand of a Real Housewife. I love Jennifer's clean and elegant aesthetic, but this ring is completely at odds with that."
