The season finale is nearly upon us, and the shockingly painful events of the penultimate episode will lead our Highlanders into the even darker events of "To Ransom a Man's Soul."

"The worst is yet to come," E! Online teased on Tuesday. "But for you who have been asking, YES, the season does end on a positive note."

This positive note has been heralded as a "a much-earned light at the end of the tunnel," but viewers will have to go through an episode that is still very much on writers' minds even now that filming has begun for season 2.

"I will say this...these two episodes have not let go of their hold on me since the writing and filming of them. They stick in my mind and I think about them often," Ira Steven Behr, writer and co-executive producer, told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm interested to see the response to them. And I'm sure there will be a response, whatever it is."
