The writing team for Transformers 5 is currently busy in the workshop brainstorming ideas and plot twists for the movie, and some recent developments lead us to believe that the franchise might finally mettle-up its female characters.

A Bumblebee Spin-off Is In The Works?

Recently Mad Max: Fury Road was lauded for putting women at the fore of an action chase movie, making them the heroic warriors in the film. Now here's hoping some of that kind of empowerment can also be translated to the Age of Extinction sequel. It was recently announced that two female writers -- Christina Hodson and Lindsey Beer -- have joined the creative team that is conceptualizing the movie as we speak.

Additionally there have also been some exciting developments in Hasbro's Transformers line-up that could bolster this idea.

Transformers 5 Sticking To 2016 Release Date?

In April, Hasbro announced that it would be coming out with an all-new female cast of Transformers. In its drive to address the call for female representation, the toyline will be unveiling six new characters.

There have been female characters in the Transformers franchise before but none of them have played a pivotal role in the series, and Hasbro is looking to change that. This trend seems to have picked up from the fan-made female Transformer Windblade, who is also a character on a Cartoon Network series based on the Transformers.

It would be very interesting to see Transformers 5 incorporate this development in the movie as well, it will not only be refreshing but will make the film series very current and relevant.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
