The new Nexus 4 smartphone from Google and LG sold out minutes after going on sale in the United States on Tuesday.

Those who visited the Google Play store were greeted with a "coming soon" sign for both the 8GB and the 16GB versions of the smartphone. Google's latest smartphone was also sold out in the United Kingdom, less than an hour after it went on sale, according to CNet.com,

Customers reported having trouble getting into the store or checking out successfully. Dutch blog AndroidWorld reported that "a planned Netherlands launch was scrapped" with high demand elsewhere.

The 4.7-inch Android device went on sale in the U.K. on Tuesday, along with Google's two newest tablets: the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. The demand for these devices are very high, and CNet.com confirmed that some customers on Twitter noticed stocks of the Nexus 4, 8GB version, quickly increasing within 15 minutes of going on sale.

Twitter user Bob Hannent posted, "Reportedly the Nexus 4 is out, a day earlier than expected, but Google Play UK store is currently showing 'Coming Soon', sold out so soon?"

Tomas Lin, another Twitter user, posted, "Google Play store is a joke - puts 2 nexus 4 in basket, then none, then sold out."

It is unclear how many Nexus 4 smartphones Google produced and made available to customers by its launch date.

The smartphone received some positive feedbacks for its low $299 starting price. However, Nexus 4 also drew some negative criticism for failing to run on 4G LTE networks. Although the Nexus 4 quickly sold out in stores in the U.S. and U.K., the Nexus 7 lineup and the new Nexus 10 tablet were still available for purchase in all versions.
