A missing girl was seen being dragged by her hair into some brush, according to some eye witnesses, sparking an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD have commenced investigations, which have included combing a section of the city, after a report was filed claiming a teenage girl was kidnapped on Monday night.

According to reports, the LAPD believe the reports were made by a credible witness and have begun searching for the girl.

A report has claimed that a young girl of at least 13 years old was involved in a heated argument with a man, who looked slightly older than her.

"That argument escalated to the point where the male struck the female at least once in the face and then began to drag her up into the brush area by her hair," Police Lt. Andy Neiman has said, according to the Associated Press.

Other witnesses allegedly have described that they saw the young man begin to remove some of the girl's clothing. Police have also said that they later found a girl's leggings and tennis shoes in the vicinity of the reported incident, but they have not as yet confirmed whether or not they belong to the alleged victim.

"My hope is that this was a dispute that was resolved in some way, but we have to treat everything like it's the real deal," Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a press conference.

At present no reports of a missing girl have been filed, but due to the alleged victim's young age, and witness reports, the LAPD are treating the matter urgently at the moment.

On Monday reports state that police searched the area with helicopters, horses and dogs but came up empty-handed.

Police have released sketches of the victim and her possible attacker, according to witness descriptions.

Some have commented, however, that numerous witnesses have come forward but none of them did anything at the time to help the young girl.

"It's amazing and so very sad that witnesses see the girl being dragged by the hair: do nothing. Then see her clothes being taken off and again: do nothing. What if the girl had been their daughter, would they do the same? How can they sleep at night"? blogger suzyboots has said on the Washington Post.
