Waffle House Sex Scandal Update: Sex Tapes Impounded Amid CEO Denying Blackmail Claims
It's being reported that a Georgia judge has recovered sexual recordings of Waffle House CEO Joe Rogers Jr. demanding sex from his former housekeeper.
The chairman of the popular restaurant chain was accused of sexual harassment by a former 43-year-old employee. It was previously stated that Rogers allegedly blackmailed the woman, who worked on his estate, to perform sexual acts on him over an eight-year period of time.
Rogers did come clean to having an affair with the accuser, but is vehemently denying the assault claims, according to ABC News.
"I am a victim of my own stupidity, but I am not going to be a victim of a crime - extortion. That was wrong of me and I am very sorry for the pain and embarrassment I've caused my wife and family. There is no excuse for what I have done."
The Waffle House chairman as well as attorneys for both of the parties made their first appearance in court on Wednesday. The judge of the Cobb County Superior Court ordered that an unspecified quantity of DVDs be impounded due to them being recorded without the knowledge of Rogers, which could be damaging to him if leaked.
Rogers' left the courthouse hand-in-hand with his wife, although it was clear that the circumstances were less than ideal.
"They're standing by me, though I did some stupid things. I was dumb***," in which his wife interrupted by saying "I second that, though."
Haylton Dupree, one of the housekeeper's attorneys, confronted Rogers rebutting blackmail claims by stating that "Joe went back and forth. It's not extortion. It's a tort case," she said, according to WSB-TV.
The unidentified woman had filed an incident report with the Atlanta Police Department that gave the details of the alleged sexual abuse. Rogers acknowledged that she was employed by him from 2003 until 2008, which is when she was let go. However, he did re-hire her as a house manager toward the end of 2009, a job she kept until resigning in June 2012.
