Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) has been of those TV show characters that viewers initially could not stand, yet developed an adoration for through the seasons.

During the latest season of The Vampire Diaries, Accola's character made the incredibly bad decision to switch off her humanity and then forced Stefan (Paul Wesley) to switch his off too.

Luckily, by the sixth season's finale, her humanity was restored and despite developing romantic feelings for Stefan she emotionally removed herself from dealing with him.

Caroline Plays A Role In Enzo's Decision Of Loyalty In Next Season Of 'The Vampire Diaries'?

International Business Times reported Tuesday that earlier this month, TVD creator Julie Plec spoke at the 2015 ATX Television Festival in Texas.

While in Austin at the festival, Plec rehashed the beginnings of Caroline, sharing, "Caroline was like the prototype, the cliché high school b----- mean girl who kind of said the inappropriate thing, made the inappropriate pass at the guy who saw through her and was like, 'Nah, I don't think so.'"

Plec noted back in the early days of the series, Caroline "basically did everything wrong."

Since those days, Caroline recently had a little rough patch, but otherwise she has been a loyal, compassionate and protective friend.

At the end of the sixth season, Stefan promised he'd wait for her, which leaves a sense of hope, but now there's even more hope for anyone praying these two vampire characters will wind up together.

"At the end of the pilot she says, 'Why doesn't anybody ever pick me?'" Plec recalled of Caroline, adding, "You realize, here's a girl who's trying so hard to matter and she's over trying, she's overcompensating. What you've done in a TV series is you've set up a girl, that by the end of her run as a character, she will be the one that gets picked first."

So it sounds likely that Caroline and Stefan could eventually end up together!

The series returns to The CW in the fall for Season 7.
