Extant's second season is hoping to pull the viewers in with their gorgeous, explosive cast.

'The 100' Season 3: Jason Rothenberg Teases the Truth Behind Alie & The Nukes, Secrets To Be Revealed

It seems the CBS drama didn't believe robots, aliens, and a furious fight for humanity would be enough to sustain Spielberg's season 2 reboot. Instead, the execs have decide pair Supernatural's Jeffery Dean Morgan (J.D.) (Molly) with X-Men's Halley Barry to rope those Wednesday night romantics into the world of sci-fi.

A jump into the future robs Molly of her android son (kidnapped by the global version of Homeland Security) and her husband John (mysteriously killed by a train), two tragedies which help land the former astronaut in the psych ward. Following her escape, however, Barry's character teams up with J.D. Richter, a cop-for-hire, to protect the world from the problems she helped unleash in season 1.

The partnership is one viewers will enjoy, according to executive producer Craige Shapiro.

"When you cast and actor or actress in a part you never know in advanced what it's going to be and you hope there's chemistry," Shapiro said at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday. "I feel like we really have something because they have this chemistry that fizzes and explodes off the screen."

For those of you wondering, J.D.'s dysfunctional marriage will apparently become a thing of the past. How could it not, particularly while trying to save the world with Haley Barry by his side?

"Jeffery Dean Morgan and I do swap fluids," Barry said, although the actress stopped short of revealing the true extent of their partnership. "There's sex in it this year, there's mystery, there's edge."
