Amy Poehler dropped by "The Late Show With David Letterman" this week, and the actress got a lot more than she bargained for.

Poehler, 41, came to the show to promote her hit NBC series "Parks and Recreation" and to discuss a recent surprise guest appearance on the sitcom by Joe Biden, the vice president of the United States.

But she left with some unexpected contact with 65-year-old Letterman. Check out the video below to see the entire encounter.

Leslie Knope, the character Poehler plays on "Parks and Recreation" has a longstanding crush on Biden. In fact, Poehler told Letterman that Knope's dream man would probably have "the brains of George Clooney and the body of Joe Biden."

Biden appeared in a small cameo on himself on "Parks and Recreation," and during her interview on "The Late Show," Poehler said that during one take, "just for the heck of it, I went in for a kiss."

Then Letterman gave Poehler quite the surprise. As the pair planned to introduce a clip from "Parks and Recreation," Letterman leaned Poehler's way.

"Oh, I thought you were going to go in for a kiss," Poehler joked.

But Letterman took her seriously, and the late night host landed a kiss squarely on Poehler's lips.

"Tell that to your little buddies back there at NBC," Letterman said afterward, eliciting even more reaction from the audience.

"Parks and Recreation," which also stars Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe, is currently in its fifth season on NBC. Poehler's earnest and hardworking character Knope, who is obsessed with excelling as a public servant, recently became the newest member of the city council of Pawnee, the city she loves eternally.
