Who will be in possession of the Dark One's dagger in season 5 of ABC's Once Upon a Time?

'Once Upon a Time's Regina 'Hates Owing Anyone' But Will She Try To Save Emma?

Emma (Jennifer Morrison) disappeared into the darkness in the season 4 finale, leaving behind only the dagger with her name emblazoned on it.

Now, as Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), Charming (Josh Dallas), Regina (Lana Parrilla), Henry (Jared Gilmore) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) attempt to bring her back to the dark side, the question is how.

Goodwin recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about who will possess the dagger.

"That is a discussion [and] that is absolutely addressed immediately," Goodwin said, adding that the Charmings definitely should not be in possession of it. "I don't know that I would trust us with it."

The report notes that the person who takes possession of the dagger will not necessarily have an easy time nabbing Emma.

"There's also some caveats in how and when you can control the Dark One through the dagger," Dallas told the publication. "Some things can be possible and some things are impossible."

Season 5 will pick up right where season 4 left off, with Emma sacrificing herself to the darkness in order to protect everyone's respective happy endings.

Images of "the Dark Swan" (a.k.a. Emma) were released recently, featuring Morrison's character with much darker and more stylish clothing.

Once Upon a Time season 5 premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
