The directors who were reportedly on top of the list to direct Fast and Furious 8 have allegedly ditched the franchise for other projects.

Need 'Good Reason To Move On Without Paul,' Michelle Rodriguez Says Of Furious 8

The Hollywood Reporter reports that James Wan, who directed Furious 7, is not interested in helming the eighth installment and has opted to focus on the sequel to The Conjuring instead. The report reveals that this might also have to do with the fact that Vin Diesel played an overactive role as the producer of the films. He reportedly went a bit overboard with oversight, demanding to be an integral part of the creative process when Wan was directing. Diesel was apparently difficult to work with as he was fussy about action scenes and also arranged for late-night script sessions to hone his character. It seems like no director would like that degree of intrusion from an actor on the film, even if he played double role as producer. The report adds that the gruelling schedule and pressure of Furious 7 actually took its toll on Wan's health as well.

But the team over at Universal is doing a good job of painting a pretty picture. Recently a spokesperson said that Wan was never being considered for the spot:

Wish List Of New Stars Joining Fast and Furious 8

"the studio and filmmakers loved working with James on Furious 7, but he was never in the mix for an eighth film due to a scheduling conflict with The Conjuring 2. We are actively casting and searching for the right director for the next chapter of the franchise."

Justin Lin who has directed a few Fast and Furious movies was also on the list for directing the next installment. But even Lin has passed up the opportunity with good reason. He chose to direct the next Star Trek movie instead. According to the report, Diesel went with a very lucrative deal to snag Lin, but the director didn't bow.

Fast and Furious 8 will be released on April 15, 2017.

Furious 7 hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
