Former Vice-Presidential candidate Paul Ryan has officially been elected as the 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives, after receiving 236 votes to secure the title.

Ryan, a representative from Wisconsin who became Mitt Romney's running mate in the 2012 election, won the position after he was nominated by House Republicans Wednesday. He replaces outgoing representative John Boehner, who announced he was retiring last month.

Some have spoken out on social media to express support for the decision to put Ryan in the position, with some believing he would be able to unite the House in a way that many believed Boehner failed to.

However, larger majority expressed concern over Ryan taking over the job, which makes him second in line to take over as President, should something prevent both the President and Vice-President from continuing to serve in their roles, especially after finding his past record on several issues to be less than favorable.

One Twitter user also spoke out not necessarily against Ryan, but against the process of electing him, which left the decision in the hands of the Representatives, and not the actual American people. However, another user then called out that argument claiming too many Americans would likely vote for someone extraordinarily unqualified for the role.
