Manchester United are reportedly fighting Bayern Munich to sign Everton full back Leighton Baines in the January transfer window, in latest rumor news from England.

According to the Daily Star, United will face stiff competition if they want to bring Baines on board. He has been one of the most consistent full backs in the English Premier League over recent seasons, and his steady form has seen him work his way into the England set-up despite facing strong competition from the likes of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand among others.

The 28 year old is reportedly a target for Sir Alex Ferguson who knows how important it is to have a rock solid center back as the foundation of the team.

Although many are speculating that Everton would be highly unlikely to let Baines go during the January transfer window, many are predicting a summer swoop by United for the defender.

However, in the latest rumors surrounding Baines, Bayern Munich have also reportedly shown interest in the player, and his 15 million pound price tag is not thought to be a huge problem for the German giants.

Baines was thought to have been a target for Manchester United already over last summer, but United prioritized bringing Robin Van Persie on board first at that time. However, following Van Persie’s excellent form fitting into the side, United are said to be turning their eyes back to Baines to strengthen their defense, and bring in a replacement for Patrice Evra.

Baines is also said to be on Liverpool’s radar, and they would love to bring the defender across town to the Reds. However, some have suggested such a move would be so unpopular with Baines’ Everton fans that he would not consider such a move.

That said, Wayne Rooney moved from Everton to Manchester United years ago, and although arguably a move for Baines to even closer rivals Liverpool could be even worse, nothing can be off the cards in this day and age.

Here is one of Baines' spectacular free-kicks that has caught the interest of teams across Europe:
