Chelsea Transfer News: New Striker Being Lined Up for Blues
Chelsea continue to be one of the focal points for January’s transfer rumor news this year, and according to new reports the Blues are preparing to confirm the signing of their second forward this month. The reigning Champions League title holders have been linked to Celta Vigo’s Lago Aspas.
According to Spanish publication Marca, Chelsea are ready to meet the 8.3 million pound fee that would trigger his release clause.
Aspas would likely jump at the chance to join the English Premier League giants, and no doubt would be able to command a hefty signing on fee and weekly salary.
A number of teams have already shown interest in the player prior to January, however, some have reportedly been put off by the 8.3 million pound release clause required.
However, that amount would not be of any issue to Chelsea if they really wanted the player, and according to the Daily Star the Blues have already tabled an offer meeting the release clause value.
So far this season Aspas has scored eight goals from his 19 appearances for Celta Vigo.
Despite the rumors surrounding Aspas, Chelsea have also been linked with Colombian striker Radamel Falcao. However, it seems that he will be staying with Atletico Madrid at least until the end of the season, meaning any move from the Blues would have to wait until the summer.
Falcao would likely command a big fee, and he has been linked with a number of other top clubs throughout Europe as well as Chelsea. Reportedly Real Madrid and Manchester City have been named alongside the player, and all three teams would not be afraid to take part in a bidding war to land the player who has scored 18 goals in just 17 league games this season so far.
