Stacie Halas, Porn Star Teacher Fired for 'Tiffany Six' Past and Loses Appeal [Photos]
A California middle school teacher lost her court appeal to return to the school she was fired from after students learned she had appeared in pornography, her lawyer said Tuesday.
A three-judge panel unanimously decided that Stacie Halas, 32, should not return as a science teacher to Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard. She was fired from her job in April after online videos of her in porn were discovered by teachers and students, according to CBS News.
"Although (Halas') pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague," Judge Julie Cabos-Owen wrote in a 46-page court ruling issued Friday, Jan. 11, by the Commission on Professional Competence.
The decision also said Halas was not forthcoming about her nine-month career in porn as 'Tiffany Six' before becoming a teacher. Halas' lawyer, Richard Schwab, said his client tried to be honest about her past but was embarrassed about her adult film industry job.
"Miss Halas is more than just an individual fighting for her job as a teacher," he said Tuesday. "I think she's representative of a lot of people who may have a past that may not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody."
Schwab noted that Halas did not star in pornographic movies while teaching in any school and that she filmed the movies between 2005 and 2006 because of financial difficulties. In hearings, however, former assistant principal Wayne Saddler testified that at the start of a sex video shown to him by a student, Halas talked about being a teacher. After rumors spread about her pornographic performance, profanity was carved into Halas' classroom window, a teacher testified.
In response to the Friday court ruling, Schwab said, "we were hoping we could show you could overcome your past."
