Rush Limbaugh Dead? Death Hoax 2013 Spreads Through Twitter From #RIPRushLimbaugh
The latest death hoax to circulate on the web proved that even morning radio hosts are not exempt from false death stories.
A Rush Limbaugh death hoax confused many Twitter users on Jan. 24 when the hastag RIPRushLimbaugh appeared all over the site and on top of the U.S. trending topics list, according to International Digital Times. However, as rumors of Limbaugh's death carrying through social media streams, the morning talk show host was in middle of his latest "Rush Limbaugh Show" broadcast.
The rumors reportedly began from a Twitter message posted the morning of Jan. 24 that read, "whoa holy shit #RIPRushLimbaugh died of an undetermined number of dildos in his a**." Though it was merely a hoax, many Twitter users came to Limbaugh's defense:
"Rush Limbaugh is alive, Air America is dead and you're still bitter."
"Truly amazed at the hate from folks today.Very sad for the world.Wishing anyone to die is evil regardless of actual intent."
"The battle cry of stupid liberals who can't compete intellectually. Air America anyone? Losers!"
Others preferred to side with the hoax and the claim it made, such as one Twitter user who wrote, "#RIPRushLimbaugh I thought it was true, i guess we'll still have to deal with this poor excuse of a human being."
Limbaugh earns an average of $50 million a year for his daily broadcasts and "The Rush Limbaugh Show" reported draws 15-30 million listeners a day, according to the Times. He has not addressed the death hoax on his own Twitter account. The last message he tweeted was on Oct. 23 and read, "Spread the word. The media can't find these sound bites of Obama condemning and blaming America for imposing freedom."
Others to become victim to a death hoax recently include actors Mickey Rourke, Nicholas Cage and Morgan Freeman.
