Her cause of death was determined to be accidental drowning and drugs were found in here system. Houston's tragic death while she was preparing for Clive Owen's annual pre-Grammy party. Her untimely death had brought a dark gloom during the Grammy's last year, with emotional tributes being paid to the pop star during the event.

Among them, Jennifer Hudson paid a tribute to Whitney Houston with a rendition of "I Will Always Love You" at the 2012 Grammy Awards. The performance at Staples Center in Los Angeles began with a single spotlight on Hudson's silhouette and a picture of a singing Houston in the background.

Hudson sang the first part of the song a cappella to sporadic cheers in the audience. "Whitney, Whitney, we love you," Hudson sang to end the song.
