Chatter On Elijah & Freya Protecting Rebekah On 'The Originals'

In an interview with KTLA 5 on Tuesday, Daniel Gillies (who plays Elijah) opened up on the possibility that his character may end up with Hayley. Naturally, he didn't give a specific answer, but he did tease what's been surrounding them. Considering that there's always some kind of trouble lingering around, it's difficult to tell what lies ahead. But that doesn't change how they feel.

"These two are sort of irrevocably bound to one another," Gillies explained. "I think that in a sense they're sort of doomed by the fact that they're in love and there's every kind of obstacle in their path. But I'm not a writer. I only see as much as you guys do."

The actor added, "I would say that no matter what happens, they can't resist the gravitational pull that's love."

Gillies also mentioned what his character will be like when the series returns for new episodes. He won't be all bad, but he won't exactly be super nice either.

"It's a parabola on a mathematical graph," Gillies said, pointing out that Elijah pretty much "fluctuates."

"I sort of entered the mother ship being The Vampire Diaries kind of like this almost like a hitman of sorts and then he sort of became quote 'nice,'" the actor said. "And now he's basically a servant to his brother in a sense who's this malevolent force."

The Originals returns on Friday, January 29 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
