In an attempt to reduce crimes of violence, politicians of Iceland are working on passing a bill that would completely ban Internet pornography in its country.

According to The Telegraph, the government is considering the use of Internet filters with the hopes of halting Icelanders from downloading or viewing online porn.

The censorship is getting strong consideration due to the nation's fears of the x-rated material's potentially damaging effects it could have on children and women.

Ogmundur Jonasson, the interior minister of Iceland, is in the process of drafting legislation to stop access of online porno images and videos through computers, game consoles and smartphones.

"We have to be able to discuss a ban on violent pornography, which we all agree has a very harmful effects on young people and can have a clear link to incidences of violent crime," he said.

Methods being contemplated include blocking access to pornographic website addresses and making it illegal to use Icelandic credit cards for access to pay-per-view adult movies.

"There is a strong consensus building in Iceland. We have so many experts from educationalists to the police and those who work with children behind this, that this has become much broader than party politics," Halla Gunnarsdottir, a political advisor to Mr. Jonasson explained to the Daily Mail.  "At the moment, we are looking at the best technical ways to achieve this. But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the Internet."

"Iceland is taking a very progressive approach that no other democratic country has tried. It is looking at pornography from a new position - from the perspective of the harm it does to the women who appear in it and as a violation of their civil rights," said Professor Gail Dines at a recent conference at Reykjavik University.
