A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday ordered R&B singer Bobby Brown to 55 days in jail starting in March for his third driving under the influence conviction, which was also his second one in a year.

The jail time was imposed, according to CNN, because Brown's license was suspended after he pleaded no contest in the summer of 2012 to a previous DUI charge. The 44-year-old entered a rehabilitation center in August as part of his plea bargain for the April 2012 arrest.

Then in October of 2012, a Los Angeles police officer smelled "a strong scent of alcohol" when he neared Brown during a Ventura Boulevard traffic stop, a police spokesperson said. The Masterpiece singer, who at the time still had his license suspended, was arrested after taking a sobriety test.

Brown did not attend court Tuesday but his lawyer entered his guilty plea on charges of DUI, driving on a suspended license and violating his probation for an earlier conviction. The judge ordered Brown to 10 days in jail for the most recent DUI offense, 10 days for the suspended license conviction and 35 days for the probation violation, according to city attorney spokesperson Frank Mateljan. His probation was extended to four years.

The judge also mandated that Brown attend at least three Alcoholics Anonymous sessions each week until he must report to the Los Angeles County jail on March 20.

Brown was married to Whitney Houston and the pair divorced in 2007. They had one daughter together, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and he has three other children.
