One of the most sought out actors in Hollywood returns to the role of one of the favorite movie stars in America. Tom Hanks have taken movie roles by storm including the past and the future, out into space and even into a child’s toy chest. And now, he’s also out in theaters bringing the role of an attorney James B. Donovan in Bridge of Spies.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Harris Poll recently released a list of the most beloved Hollywood celebrities, and they placed the Bridge of Spies actor in the No. 1. spot. Hanks beats top contenders like Johnny Depp, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence and even last year's winner, Denzel Washington.
With a career like Tom Hanks, it’s no surprise why one of the best actors in the industry had gained the top spot. Last year, it was reported that the actor came in at no.5 which also not a bad spot, but he had previously won the title in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2013.
Hanks has come quite far since we met him in the hit '80s sitcom, Bosom Buddies. According to Entertainment Tonight, the 59-year-old actor has starred in a number of critically acclaimed movies, including Big, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, You've Got Mail, Cast Away and the Toy Story series. He has also received many award nominations throughout his career and has taken home several Academy Awards and a Golden Globe.
On the other note, Harris Poll reportedly ranked the famous celebrities that come after Hanks, Johnny Depp, most recently onscreen in an acclaimed portrayal of mobster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, is in the No. 2 spot this year (up from No. 4 a year ago). The next two performers on the list have both fallen two spots since last year. First, Denzel Washington – who topped the list last year but didn’t appear in any major releases in 2015 – falls to the No. 3 position.
Moreover, the late John Wayne, who hasn’t appeared in a major release in… nonetheless remains a mainstay on the list; at No. 4 this year (down from No. 2), the Duke is the only person who has never dropped off of the top 10 in over two decades.
Closing out the top half of the list – and soaring from No. 9 last year to No. 5 this year – is Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford.
