Russell Crowe claimed on Tuesday that he captured film of an alleged Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) in the skies of Australia.

The 48-year-old Gladiator actor reportedly captured pictures of a light flash across the sky in Sydney and posted the supposed UFO proof on Twitter to show his fans. He said he originally set up the camera to capture fruit bats rising from Royal Botanic Gardens, but it appeared that he captured more than he was expecting.

The set of images show oddly shaped lights that are said to be hovering over the Australian gardens.

"This was a big surprise,'' Crowe wrote in the tweet, that included a link to the YouTube video of the alleged UFO under the username ParallelUniverse1234, according to Fox News.

Crowe posted on Twitter that he used a Canon 5D camera reportedly without flash and took three "time-lapse photo's taken in 4.5 seconds." The actor admitted that the images had minor editing and also claimed that it could not have been a lens flare since the images are seen moving while the camera was in a fixed position.

Crowe's representative clarified Tuesday that the images were not actually shot by the actor, but by cinematographer Duane Manwiller who filmed the sighting in Sydney four years ago, according to News.com.au. Crowe's manager Grant Vandenberg was also reportedly asked why Crowe chose to release the images now instead of four years ago. He responded: "I have no idea."

Since the video was posted on YouTube numerous commenters have debunked the UFO as likely light captured from a boat at the nearby Woolloomooloo wharf in Sydney.

A commenter named bernzeppi gave his explanation for the light stating: "In the video you see 2 cars drive along Mrs. Macquaries Rd, keeping in mind it's a time lapse shot with the shutter open for a number of seconds. The 'UFO' lights are a yacht passing in the foreground...there are lots of millionaires yachts moored there."
