Four people were killed and two severely injured in Upstate New York in the village of Herkimer in a deadly rampage.
The gunman has been identified as Kurt Myers, 64, according to several media reports. The man reportedly set fire to his apartment at about 9:30 a.m. today, then went to a barbershop and shot two people dead and injured two and finally drove to a carwash where he fatally shot two more people.
"This is truly an inexplicable situation," New York governor Andrew M. Cuomo said at a press conference in Herkimer today. "There was no apparent rational motive to the best of our knowledge."
Myers remains at large. He is reportedly barricated in one building in the village.
Witnesses said Myers walked into the barbershop and asked the owner "Do you remember me?" according to the New York Post.
"Yes," the owner replied.
He then reportedly shot him in the leg but he survived. Myers however killed two people who were having haircuts, one of them identified as Harry Montgomery, 68 who had five grandchildren.
