According to Martha Stewart herself, as the story goes, fettuccine Alfredo was invented by Italian restaurateur, Alfredo di Lelio, in the early 1900’s. The simple pasta dish became famous in 1927 when actors Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks visited Alfredo’s restaurant in Rome on their honeymoon.

This recipe by Sarah Carey is creamy and just too delicious to pass up!

To make the wonderful dish, you will need 2 sticks butter, 1/2 pound grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving, salt, and a pound fettuccine.

First off, beat butter and Parmesan until creamy using an electric mixer.

Then in a large pot of boiling salted water, cook fettuccine according to package instructions until al dente, about 12 minutes. Reserve about 1/2 cup of cooking water; drain pasta.

Return fettuccine to warm pot. Toss pasta with 1/2 teaspoon salt, cheese mixture, and 1/4 cup of the pasta water. Add more pasta water, as needed. Serve with additional cheese and enjoy!
