After a series of threats to Gwyneth Paltrow's physical and emotional health, the actress is looking good and committed to keeping a healthy diet.

In an interview with Self's April 2013 issue, the 40-year-old mother said her new diet consisting of unprocessed foods helps her feel better all around.

"A couple of years ago, I got really run down. I had to sing at awards shows, which was fun but stressful," said the Iron Man star. "Eventually, I had a panic attack. My body was like, 'What is happening?' "

Admitting usage of sleeping pills and wine consumption, Gwyneth realized she was headed toward an unhealthy path. Her doctor said life is about balance and told the author of It's All Good to cut out processed foods like dairy, sugar and gluten. Once she started eating healthier, Paltrow felt herself improving.

While she agrees with eating healthier, Paltrow admitted she only keeps the balanced diet about two or three times a year for three weeks at a time. Regardless, she is sensing some real improvement.

The actress added that in the past she had "a lot of unexpressed anger" and "made everyone else's feelings more important than my own." Once she addressed the issue, she felt better about herself and her relationships.

"You're not learning anything unless you're having the difficult conversations... It's changed my marriage [to Chris Martin] too, but he's up for the challenge," she said.
