The Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis campus was put on lockdown on March 19 after a female student reportedly saw a man carrying a gun in the parking lot according to reports.

The sighting occurred at 12:30 p.m. and the female called the police, according to the Christian Post. Authorities told students and staff to try avoiding the campus and the campus was being searched for the possible gunman.

IUPUI tweeted at around 1:00 p.m., "Alert: Man with what may be a gun seen near Barnhill & Vermont. Campus remains on lock down. We will continue to update as possible."

Another eyewitness reportedly saw a man that fit the first witnesses' description, however the police have not yet found a suspect. They are still conducting the search and several university buildings have been cleared out.

The last tweet at about 4:50 p.m. responded to someone who asked if people could leave the parking garages. The response was, "Everyone on campus is encouraged to stay where they are. Everyone off campus should avoid the area. More than that, I can't say."

The nearby NCAA headquarters as well as the Riley Hospital for Children and Crispus Attucks High School were also put on lockdown.
