Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One, Specs: Bigger Screen, Better Camera & More
With the HTC One expected to be released in the U.S. some time in April and the Samsung Galaxy S4 following shortly after, the two smartphones are likely to go head to head in the market upon their releases and the question is which phone is better.
A company released statement said that the HTC One will be available in the U.S. before the end of April, although it did not give a specific launch date. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is scheduled to be available in the United Kingdom by April 26 and though it has been launched in U.S., its release date on major network carriers like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon has not yet been officially announced by the company or any of its carrier partner in the States. PC Tablet stated that rumors and speculation are suggesting an early May release in the States for the respective carriers.
UPDATE: T-Mobile announced on March 26 that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be released on its network on May 1st. Tech Radar noted on March 28 that the smartphone will land in stores for most retailers on April 26.
Considering screen size, the Galaxy S4 comes in with a wide 5-inch FULL HD Super AMOLED screen (Galaxy S3 was 4.8-inches) with 441 ppi color and high resolution in comparison to HTC One's 4.7-inch full HD 1080 pixel display with 468 ppi. The HTC has a full aluminum body while the Galaxy's is polycarbonate body, making it the lightest Galaxy yet.
HTC's UltraPixel Camera has BSI sensors and wide angle lens with HDR capability. The front camera has 2.1 mega pixels and there is also 1080p full HD video recording. Samsung has an audio and animate option for photos, plus a front and rear camera that can be used simultaneously even during video calls. Its duel camera option can be used for taking pictures and making video recordings as well.
Each phone has its own innovative features as well.
HTC BlinkFeed allows users to pick the social networking sites, news and feeds they want to stay updated on and they will all stream live to the phone's home screen. Along with its live home screen it has slow motion video recording equipped with a variety of playback speeds.
The Samsung phone allows users to preview videos by simply hovering their finger above the screen. Touch is not necessary (a cordless charging pad/cover can also be purchased) and even more so, there is face recognition for when to pause and play videos. Group play also allows users to share music and use multiple phones as speakers at one time, and play games in real time.
Sense TV on the HTC allows synching with a television or remote control. Samsung has the same, called Samsung WatchON.
To say which phone is better depends on a user's preference. The Galaxy's screen is bigger so that is better for watching movies and recording videos. For music lovers, the HTC One has dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers that provides studio-like sound with HTC's BoomSound.
The Galaxy is lighter in terms of weight but the HTC is perhaps smaller and more compact. Samsung has more innovative camera options as well.
