Everybody loves an underdog. From Alexander Hamilton to Frodo Baggins, people just can't resist a good success story. For Amazing Race fans, Friday night's 100 and 1 odds were on Sheri and Cole.

Leg 11 of season 28 took the last four teams from Bali to the bustling metropolis of Shenzhen, China. Each couple wound up on the same flight - a recurring theme this season and a measure of fortune for Sheri and Cole after their fourth place finish at the Bajra Sandhi Monument. Once the plan touched down outside Hong Kong, however, their luck took a turn for the worse.

So far, the social media sensations have played a fairly clean game. Now that a million dollars is just within reach, however, team ups and lying are the order of the day. Tyler and Korey reach the airport clue first, but used a little subterfuge to keep their discovery on the down low before teaming up with Dana and Matt on the Road Block. Burnie and Ashley ultimately called their bluff, and the entire situation made the gamers grind their teeth.

While Burnie's geographical prowess championed him through a scavenger hunt at the Window of the World theme park, the duo's indecision during Detour: Commuter Cycle vs. Master of Arts cost them precious time. The pair ultimately settled on Master of Arts (hauling paintings and arranging them on a gallery wall) with Tyler/Korey and Dana/Matt. Sheri and Cole headed to the Commuter Cycle first, and, knowing they were short on time, stuck out the difficult task of mastering a tiny electric unicycle that looks like a bulky ancestor of the now ubiquitous hoverboard.

Tyler/Korey hit the mat first, quickly followed by Dana/Matt. Saddled with the choice of going left or right to find the Pit Stop, Burnie and Ashley ultimately chose wrong as they inadvertently offered the third place spot to Alabama's tenacious mother/son duo.

Tune in next Friday for the Amazing Race finale on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
