California Attorney General Kamala Harris is making headlines when President Obama called her "the best looking attorney general," during his remarks at a fundraiser in Atherton, California.

Obama was in California raising money for the 2014 election cycle on Thursday. This event raises money for the Democratic National Committee which took place a garden party at the home of Levi Strauss-heir John Goldman, according to The Los Angeles Times.

"She's brilliant and she's dedicated, she's tough," he said. "She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general."

"It's true! C'mon," he added.

Harris, 48, has served as California's attorney general since 2011, and is claimed to be a key figure in the Democratic party. Many reports have mentioned her as an important potential candidate for governor, although her speech at last summer's Democratic National Convention was not too popular. SCOTUSBlog named her as a potential Supreme Court justice, and said that electoral timing might make her an unlikely pick.

Harris' background comes from mixed descent. She is the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican-American father, and has been described as "the female Barack Obama."

After the president spoke about the importance to address climate change and energy challenges, he gave a "shout-out" to Harris, according to the pool report, and said that she was easy on the eyes.

"And she is a great friend and has just been a great supporter for many, many years. She's brilliant and she's dedicated," Obama said at the luncheon.

The crowd reportedly laughed at Obama alluding to her looks.

Obama added that Harris is intelligent and that she makes sure everyone is treated fairly. "You have to be careful to, first of all, say she is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you'd want in anybody who is administering the law," he said.

The president came under some controversy back in 2008 when he called a a female journalist "sweetie" and told her to save a question for a press availability.

Some Twitter users bashed Obama's comment as "awkward" and "sexist."
