Is the Cruel Intentions TV show still happening? Or, is it about to be sabotaged?

A series based on the iconic film was supposed to be picked up for NBC this fall, but according to Sunday's report from E! News, the 2016-2017 lineup didn't include this particular series.

So does that mean the TV show that picks up from where the 1999 film left off will never happen? Not necessarily.

NBC boss Robert Greenblatt mentioned that the show is still being considered.

"We're still discussing it," Greenblatt said. "There's just so many shows that we have scheduled and ordered."

While this creates a little bit oh hope, the man did point out why this series isn't on the list. It's possible that it may not be as fitting for all the other shows on NBC right now.

Greenblatt said that Cruel Intentions is "a bit of an outlier for us because there's no other show quite like it in our list of genres. But we like it and we're still discussing it and trying to figure it out."

If the show ever does get picked up, then viewers can expect to see Sarah Michelle Gellar reprise her role as the evil Kathryn who manipulated her peers and stepbrother.

The actress previously told Entertainment Tonight that the series is "better, badder" and "b-tchier." She also mentioned how it'll differ from the movie.

"It's 17 years later and we didn't tell the story until we had a great story to tell," she said. "I think we have something really unique and really different."

The series revolves around Bash, the teenage son of Annette and Sebastian, who discovers his late father's journal and discovers that he comes from a family filled with money and power.
