Matt Bomer opened up on the challenges of being an actor as well as a dad.

On Friday, Entertainment Weekly caught up with the star who mentioned that being in movies and having kids is a "tricky balancing act." And since his boys are so young, Bomer said he would eventually like to do something for a kids' movie so his sons can watch it, but at the same time, he wants them to see their dad as someone who simply does what he's dedicated to.

"For better or for worse, I tend toward more adult fare," Bomer, who's married to publicist Simon Halls, said. "I would love to do a voice animated film or something like that, that [my] boys could all go and see, but at a certain point I just made peace with myself about it by saying, I guess they'd rather [have] a parent who really pursued his dreams and what he was passionate about."

It's also going to be a while before his sons watch any of his adult-themed films.

"There's quite a bit of my body of work that's going to be locked up until they're 17," he said.

The actor's most recent film is The Nice Guys where he co-stars with Ryan Gosling. And since Gosling just had his second child, he and Bomer bonded over fatherhood. The two "sought solace in each other regularly" during filming, which seemed like a nice connection.

When it comes to his choices in movies, Bomer previously mentioned in a report from 3 News that he likes to be in films that intimidate him.

"I think always if something scares me, I'm immediately drawn to it," he said. "And then I ask why does it scare me, and if the answer to that is interesting, then I will probably do the job."
