The premiere of The Fosters Season 4 will be unlike anything viewers have seen on the series thus far.

On Friday, TV Guide posted some photos of the upcoming episode when the high school goes into lockdown after Nick brings a gun to school. After he saw Mariana kiss Mat, Nick just snaps and no one knows what exactly he might do at the school or to the people he feels betrayed by.

But what makes this episode so frightening is how it relates to real-life occurrences with guns and school.

"It's really pretty harrowing," executive producer Joanna Johnson said. "It's something that's happening so much it's almost becoming normal. It almost seems like a weekly occurrence that someone is taking a gun to school. We wanted to explore what the impact of this has on our schools and has on our kids."

Johnson also pointed out how the beginning of this season will differ from past episodes of the show.

"The first two episodes of the season a different look and a different feel," she said. "We're trying to push the envelope of the vibe of our show. It's very intense and dramatic and I'm really proud of these episodes."

Another storyline that can be expected in the fourth season is how Jude will continue to struggle with his sexuality following the split with Connor and the death of Jack. As he confides in religion, this will leave Jude with a process to balance.

"He'll continue to struggle with his balance between being religious and gay, and he'll try to find who he is and he's still going to struggle accepting who he is and come to terms with that," Hayden Byerly, who plays Jude, exclusively told Enstarz. "So we'll see that in the beginning right out of the gate actually and probably throughout most of the season."

The Fosters Season 4 premieres on Monday, June 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
