John Boyega will trade light sabers for Jaegers when he hops from Star Wars into the world of Pacific Rim.

The Brit captured our hearts and imaginations as Finn, The Force Awakens' wayward storm trooper turned freedom fighter last winter, and 2017 will see him take an entirely different sci-fi universe by storm (see video below).

Boyega will portray the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from Guileeermo del Toro's original 2013 film.

"I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world," del Toro told Variety. "'The World saving the world' was our goal and I couldn't think of a better man for the job."

Not only will Boyega step in front of the camera, he will also play a role in producing the pic.

"I'll be taking on the Pacific Rim franchise with Steven S.Deknight directing. Very excited!" Boyega tweeted on Monday. "So happy! My company UpperRoom Productions founded by myself & [Femi Oguns], will co-produce #PacificRim2 alongside @Legendary." Unsurprisingly, fans were over the moon.

Boyega is taking over the world and we are totally okay with that.
