Being Nintendo's first truly HD console, the Wii U is a pretty capable machine, boasting a lineup of exclusive titles and a gameplay that is inspired by its hyper-successful predecessor, the Wii. However, the Wii U failed to capture the same level of support as the Wii, and only a few years into its release, Nintendo is already gearing up to replace its flagship console.

Thus, for Nintendo's Vice President of Sales, Scott Moffitt, fans should get a Wii U now, before the console disappears for good.

"Grab a Wii U while you can, because they won't be around forever," he said.

Indeed, it is quite undeniable that the Wii U failed in terms of being a worthy successor to the Wii. After all, the previous generation of gaming consoles was dominated by Nintendo's champion, with the Wii selling almost 102 million units during its run. On the other hand, the Wii U has only sold about 10 million units since it was released in 2012.

Thus, while the Wii U could be considered as a capable gaming machine in its own right, it nonetheless became an undeniable failure when it came to sales. This was despite the fact that the Wii U included Nintendo's very strong IP lineup, such as the wildly popular Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Nevertheless, Nintendo has been pretty vocal about the development of its next-generation console, the NX. While very little is known about the device, Nintendo has been very clear in its intentions to reclaim its throne on top of the gaming console mountain. A throne which is currently occupied by the Sony PlayStation 4.

As much as the emergence of the NX bodes well for Nintendo's console business, however, the NXs upcoming release is practically a nail in the coffin of the Wii U. Indeed, Nintendo has already announced that it would soon stop manufacturing the Wii U, with the firm transitioning its efforts into manufacturing units of the NX.

Thus, there is much truth to the words of Nintendo's Vice President of Sales. Pretty soon, the Wii U would be a machine that is very hard to find. Pretty soon, it would be a true collector's item.
