After months of silence, Nintendo has finally announced the release date of the game, stating that the highly-anticipated, augmented reality game would be made available for iOS and Android users sometime this July. The announcement, which came after months of silence, came during the gaming giant's second-day E3 live stream.

Though Nintendo's announcement did not specify the exact date the game would be available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, the assurance that the augmented reality game would be available in July was enough to incite a lot of excitement from the franchise's legions of fans.

The game would be free to play for both iOS and Android players, though Nintendo has confirmed that in-app purchases would also be part of the game. So far, however, the developers of the game have not confirmed if in-app purchases would be-be required in order to progress further into the game.

"For players who want to enhance their Pokémon GO experience, even more, certain items and features can be accessed via in-app purchases. Players can spend real money on PokéCoins, the in-game currency of Pokémon GO. PokéCoins can then be exchanged for power-ups, extra items, and other enhancements," an announcement from The Pokemon Company, one of the firms developing the game, said.

Apart from in-app purchases, a wearable device called the Pokemon GO Plus, which would allow players to play the game without using their smartphones, is set to be made available as well. The device, which would cost $34.99, would be available after the game's initial launch.

Pokemon GO captured the interest of fans since the premise of the game was announced. After all, the prospect of exploring real-world locations in search for the titular pocket monsters is something that has been wished for by fans ever since the first Pokemon game debuted years ago. The game is being developed by Niantic Labs, in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.
