MIT Shooting: Officer Shot, Hospitalized; Gunfire at 10:48p.m, Police Dog Brought In
An officer has been shot at the MIT campus tonight.
The shooting reportedly took place at 10:48 PM Thursday night. Shots were reportedly fired near Building 32 on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
According to CNN, police dog has been brought in by state police but there doesn't seem to be any kind of bomb sniffing at the moment. Federal authorities are currently at the scene, according to the report.
The campus has alerted the campus community with the following message late Thursday night:
At 10:48 PM today gunshots were reported near Building 32 (Stata) which is currently surrounded by responding agencies. The area is cordoned off. Please stay clear of area until further notice. Unknown if injuries have occurred.. Although the situation is considered active and extremely dangerous, an investigation is underway. Updates will be provided at this site when more information becomes available.
The unidentified officer who had been shot is currently in hospital and his condition is not known as of yet.
The shooting in MIT comes less than a week after the Boston Marathon bombings.
