Lauri Peterson lost her step father just days after her son was accused of attempting to murder a man in Santa Ana, Calif.

According to Peterson's most recent social media post, she was devastated over the loss of Richard Bubak just before learning her son Josh Waring had been arrested.

"My heart is heavy with the loss of my step-father from Alzheimer's," Peterson wrote to her fans and followers on Instagram. "I'm thankful for the 40 years that we shared and so thankful he was able to step in for my father who was too ill to walk me down the aisle. We shared a love for the mountains and horses. Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease by taking away memories that took a life time to create! You will always hold a very special place in my heart and I will forever be grateful for the love you had for my mother! Rest in peace! #RichardBubak."

Peterson's son was arrested last Monday after he allegedly shot a man in the torso outside of a sober living house.

“Apparently there had been a previous confrontation between [Waring] and the occupants of that residence earlier, and he had returned,” Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Beckman said in a statement, according to a report by Radar Online.

“At about 1:30 a.m. my husband was still awake and heard people out in the street screaming and cussing,” a woman who lives nearby said of the altercation. “He came back in and just said he wasn’t going to deal with this.”

At the end of last week, Waring appeared in a Costa Mesa courtroom where it was announced that he was facing three counts of attempted murder, three counts personal use of a firearm and one count of inflicting great bodily injury.

Waring's victim, 35-year-old Daniel Lopez, is currently receiving medical care but is expected to survive his injuries.
