The Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd recently spoke on why the death of fellow alum Christina Grimmie really hit home.

The death of Grimmie is still being felt across the nation, especially with her fellow contestants on The Voice. Boyd, who won season 7 of the singing competition, spoke recently about how Grimmie's death has impacted him.

"It touched home with me, because it was an artist that was on 'The Voice' a season before me," Boyd told Taste of Country, of Grimmie's death. "Any artist will tell you, the meet and greets, and the personal connection to the fans, that's a lot of why we do what we do. Knowing that what we're doing actually matters to someone. And for that time and intimate moment to be violated like it was in this instance is devastating."

Grimmie was shot and killed earlier this month at an Orlando meet-and-greet by a fan who reportedly obsessed with her. The singer had previously competed on season 6 of The Voice, where she came in third place.

While this was a truly horrifying incident especially for singers who put themselves out there and frequently interact with fans, Boyd said he would not give in to fear.

"It's forced him to look at those moments in a different light, he said. "It makes you wonder about yourself; 'Am I putting myself in harm's way?' Because I want to be around for a while. But ultimately we can't let fear win. We have to continue to push on. I haven't let it stop me yet."

Boyd also admitted that he's had a few scary moments with fans, especially in the few months after his stint on The Voice - "people flying in from overseas and things like that," he said. "Moments where I was just looking around for security, like, 'All right, this is a little bit more than I can handle at the moment.'"

Meanwhile, The Voice recently released a tribute video to Grimmie with many of her fellow season 6 competitors sharing their favorite memories with the singer.
