Hailey Darlene Dunn Body Found:13-Year-Old Texas Cheerleader Remains Found
Authorities found the body of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, a middle school Texas cheerleader who was reported missing in December 28, 2010.
Dunn's remains were found near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County on March 16 and after DNA studies the Scurry County Sheriff's Office confirmed the identity of the body.
The Texas Rangers informed the girl's mother Billie Jean Dunn about the finding, according to her attorney John Young.
Authorities continue to investigate the girl's disappearance and the cause of her death.
The body was reportedly found about 20 miles northwest of the girl's hoometown of Colorado City. She went missing on December 28, 2010 and intensive searches were conducted for months to find her.
According to the Daily Mail, more than 100 billboards with her picture were placed in Texas and other states.
Police have named Shawn Adkins, the boyfriend of the girl's mother, as a person of interest in her disappearance but he was never charged.
During the investigation, authorities also accused the girl's mother of lying about the whereabouts of Adkins, who was found at her home. She however pleaded no contest in June 2011 to making a false report to police and the court suspended a 90-day jail term with probation.
