Texas Governor Rick Perry condemned a cartoon published by The Sacramento Bee in which he appears boasting about businesses booming in Texas next to an explosion.

In the cartoon, Perry appears giving a speech saying "...BUSINESS IS BOOMING IN TEXAS!" Next to him, the cartoon shows a huge mushroom cloud and fire.

A fertilizer plant exploded in Texas causing 14 deaths on April 17 and devastated the small town of West, Texas.

It "was with extreme disgust and disappointment I viewed your recent cartoon," Perry wrote to the Sacramento Bee's editor in a letter.

"While I will always welcome healthy policy debate, I won't stand for someone mocking the tragic deaths of my fellow Texans and our fellow Americans," Perry wrote.

"Additionally, publishing this on the very day our state and nation paused to honor and mourn those who died only compounds the pain and suffering of the many Texans who lost family and friends in this disaster."

Apart from the tragic deaths, the explosion last week damaged numerous houses, a nursing home and West's high school and middle school, according to CNN.

The explosion is being investigated but it is believed that it had to do with the 270 tons of highly volatile ammonium nitrate that was kept in the plant.
