Daniel Radcliffe will get some time to practice his American accent when he appears in Tokyo Vice.

According to EW, the former boy wizard is slated to take on the lead role in the adaptation of Jake Adelstein's memoires.

Adelstein was an American reporter working the crime beat for the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shinbun, reports Deadline. Based on the book of the same name, the story follows a young Adelstein as he gets tangled up with the yakuza in his efforts to expose Tadamasa Goto.

Directed by Anthony Mandler, the film will start shooting in 2014 with a script adapted by JT Rogers. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Adelstein is working closely with Rogers, his old high school classmate.

"I had a number of people interested in adapting the book, but I was concerned what would happen if I didn't have some say in what happened to the screenplay," Adelstein stated, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I would have issues if a lot of liberties were taken, as this is the story of my life."

Radcliffe has not been idle since the wrap of the Harry Potter series, appearing on screen in The Woman in Black as well as Kill Your Darlings while hitting the stage for Equus and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The 23-year-old is clearly making a successful transition from a child actor.
