Johnny Manziel is officially a free agent.

After being dealt with a 4-game suspension last year after serving as quarterback for the Cleveland Browns (and then being cut from the team due to an alleged assault on his former girlfriend Colleen Crowley), Manziel is now eligible to return to the NFL. The only problem is he has yet to link up with a team.

"Johnny Manziel is officially able to play in the league again," The Daily Caller revealed to readers on Monday. "Manziel, who is a free agent, had been suspended for the first four games of the season, but he is now eligible to immediately return to the field."

In June, months after the Cleveland Browns cut ties with the quarterback, the NFL suspended Manziel violating their substance-abuse policy.

"At that point it was clear that Manziel faced much bigger issues than football, and it was no surprise that he wasn't signed to an NFL roster in the weeks and months that followed. Even still, after Sunday's slate of games Manziel is technically available to play because his four-game suspension will be over," CBS Sports explained.

Months ago, as he continued to be faced with rumors of alcoholism and drug use, a report hit the web claiming that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed Manziel to a 1-year deal. However, that report was later proved to be nothing more than an online hoax. Still, the rumor continues to swirl as Manziel has become a free agent.
