As thousands of people prepare for the impact of Hurricane Matthew along the Southeastern coast of the United States, others are putting out the theory that the severity of the storm has been greatly exaggerated to make an argument about climate change ahead of the 2016 election.

Currently a category 3 storm, Matthew is hugging the Florida coast, with it's center most recently reported at being less than 30 miles east-northeast of Daytona Beach, Fla., and about 80 miles southeast of Jacksonville.

It's expected to move north-northwest at 14 mph, The New York Times reports.

However, some believe the storm's severity is being greatly exaggerated, with Matt Drudge pondering on social media that the reports being put out there about the storm are simply a liberal government conspiracy, which are meant to drive home a point about climate change ahead of the 2016 election, which he thinks is being done in order to boost Hillary Clinton's chances of winning the election over Donald Trump.

"The deplorables are starting to wonder if govt has been lying to them about Hurricane Matthew intensity to make exaggerated point on climate," he wrote in a series of tweets. "Hurricane center has monopoly on data. No way of verifying claims. Nassau ground observations DID NOT match statements! 165mph gusts? WHERE? Don't blame Mother Nature. Blame Mankind."

Drudge even linked to a story about comments Clinton made on the campaign trail just last month, where she said Hurricanes are a direct result of climate change, and suggested that Donald Trump couldn't protect the country against natural disasters.

"Another threat to our country is climate change. 2015 was the hottest year on record and the science is clear: It's real, it's wreaking havoc on communities across America," she said at the time. "Last week's hurricane was another reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause and I send my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hermine. But, this is not the last one that's going to hit Florida given what's happening in the climate....If it affects people who lose their homes or their businesses that took a lifetime to build, it doesn't matter to him. When it comes to protecting our country against natural disasters and the threat of climate change, once again, Donald Trump is totally unfit and unqualified to be our President."
