Emma Watson wants the world to know that she's not trying to distance herself from her 'Harry Potter' roots.

Watson is currently at the Cannes Film Festival in France where her new movie The Bling Ring is set to premiere.

On Thursday morning, the actress addressed her diverging into more adult-themed movies after eight successful movies as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series:

"I'm not trying to run away from it," she insisted, "I'm very proud of the work that I did. I'm just really enjoying having the chance to transform into new roles."

In The Bling Ring, Watson stars as the leader of a group of young burglars who target celebrity houses. The first teaser trailer premiered in March, and many YouTube users commented on the sexualized nature of her role.

Watson told the press that she prepared for her new celebrity-obsessed role by watching celebrity reality shows like The Hills and Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

She was also allowed the freedom to improvise her dialogue and her mannerisms, something that wasn't permitted in filming the Harry Potter series.

She said, "I am used to really having to stick to my lines. Because people really know them by heart, so it was lovely to ad-lib or improvise. It was really special."

The film, written and directed by Sofia Coppola, will premiere in the US on June 14th.

Last year, Watson played Sam in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's coming-of-age novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  For the role she was nominated for multiple critics awards and won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress.

This summer she will be starring as herself in the upcoming Seth Rogen-directed comedy This is the End. She will also be acting alongside Russell Crowe in Darren Aranofsky's Noah, an adaptation of the Noah's Ark story.
