Metallica lead vocalist James Hatfield was visibly upset about the microphone mishap at the Grammys.

Lars Ulrich, the Metallica drummer, appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden Tuesday night and discussed the unfortunate technical difficulties that went down in their Grammys duet with Lady Gaga. Hetfield's mic was not working for the first 20 seconds of their performance, while Gaga's was working just fine.

While the microphone eventually started working, Hetfield was not happy in the least. Ulrich explained how Hetfield was livid after the performance.

"I haven't seen him like that in 20 years," Ulrich said, discussing Hetfield. "I mean he was livid. I mean, he's aged really well and he's a pretty chill guy, but the first five or 10 minutes in that dressing room was not a lot of fun."

Ulrich went on to discuss how they simply tried to power through the performance and get it done, despite the mishap.

"We fought through it, and, you know, with the fire and Gaga in my lap for a minute at one point, it was just 'Keep going, keep going, keep going,'" he explained. "So we just fought through it, and a lot of people said it at least made for great television."

However, there were no issues between Metallica and Gaga. Ulrich told Rolling Stone earlier this week that she served as "quintessential perfect fifth member of this band," noting, "Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome. [The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There's nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy."
