The revelation that Mama June Shannon has lost a significant amount of weight has many wondering how exactly she did it.

Mama June's transition to good health is documented in the new WE tv reality show Mama June: From Not to Hot, with the reality star dropping down to a size four. Now, Mama June's trainer, Kenya Crooks, revealed the secrets to how she lost all that weigh.

"When you decide to lose weight, you have to be a little selfish and focused all the time," Crooks noted to Women's Health. "Mama June is a giver, and it's hard for her to say 'no' sometimes. I had to remind her that this is her time. I had to say, 'You can't be everything to everybody else and be nothing to yourself.' Once she gave herself permission to put herself first, she was fine."

Crooks put Mama June to work through an exercise plan that included modified crunches, reaching sit-ups and special strength training. The trainer would work with Mama June two to three times per week, doing elbow crunches, reaching sit-ups and Russian twists.

"I really stressed lean meats, vegetables and fruits," he told the mag, adding he also suggested reducing portion sizes."

After initially losing weight, Mama June underwent bariatric surgery at which point she started training with Crooks.

Mama June rose to prominence on the TLC reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, centering on her daughter, Alana, a.k.a. Honey Boo Boo. Alana spoke with People about how Mama June disguised herself in public during her weight loss to provide a surprise on her new reality show.

"It's been really hard for her [to stay hidden], because my mama is not just a person who can stay in the house," Alana told People. "My mama is very outgoing and stubborn. So when she's like, 'Let's go to the grocery store,' we're like, 'You can't, because you have to stay in hiding, you know.'"

Mama June: From Not to Hot airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on WE tv.
