Kristi Yamaguchi gave Nancy Kerrigan what may be the worst possible advice for her upcoming stint on Dancing With the Stars.

Now this is a cringeworthy comment. Yamaguchi tweeted an encouraging message to Kerrigan the day the latter was slated to compete on the Dancing With the Stars premiere and accidentally made an incredibly dark joke. Check it out:

Yamaguchi telling Kerrigan to "break a leg" would be an innocent piece of encouragement if it were anyone but Kerrigan. Kerrigan was famously whacked in the leg at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championship by an assailant hired by rival Tonya Harding's ex-husband. The infamous moment is well known for Kerrigan painfully screaming "Why? Why? Why?" as she clutched her knee.

Yamaguchi's tweet has been retweeted by over 4,000 accounts and liked by over 7,000, far more than most of her usual tweets. Kerrigan did not publicly address Yamaguchi's tragic phrasing and simply thanked her fellow Olympian:

Kerrigan received one of the top scores of the night during the Dancing With the Stars premiere. The former figure skater received a 28 out of 40 for her elegant Vienesse waltz with partner Artem Chigvintsev, tying them for third place on the overall leaderboard.

Olympians have traditionally done very well on Dancing With the Stars in the past, often winning the Mirrorball trophy. Olympians who have won the show have included Apollo Anton Ohno in season 4, Yamaguchi in season 6, Shawn Johnson in season 8, Meryl Davis in season 18 and Laurie Hernandez in season 23.

Dancing With the Stars season 24 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
