NBC will be premiering an innovative new drama series called Siberia this summer about the filming of a survival reality show.

The first trailer for Siberia was released by NBC on Friday and many critics are already making comparisons to ABC's island drama Lost and CBS's long-running reality series Survivor.

In Siberia, 16 reality TV contestants are stranded on the Siberian territory of Tunguska, a remote area where a meteor landed 100 years ago. When one of the contestants gets badly injured, the others are astonished when no help arrives. The contestants slowly begin to realize that the paranormal happenings going on in the area are not actually part of the show.

"The concept of survival, when mysterious elements are at play, makes for a compelling show," said NBC executive Jeff Bader, "We believe a scripted series that offers an insightful behind-the-scenes view of how a reality concept comes together -- especially when things don't go according to plan -- will connect with our audience in a very satisfying way."

The series' tagline in the trailer is "Get Lost in Reality", which indicates that they are fully aware that they are essentially melding the concepts of Lost and Survivor together.

From the trailer, it seems as though the look of the show will be in documentary style, with many shots of characters talking to the camera.

"This is just a show. Isn't it?" says one character at the end of the trailer.

NBC doesn't mention anywhere in the trailer that Siberia is a scripted show, which may be a strategy to draw in viewers that think it really is a reality show gone wrong.

The show is set to premiere on NBC on Monday, July 1. It is scheduled to run for 13 consecutive weeks.
