Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have moved into a new home in New York City and in addition to taking the big step of living together, the couple has also chosen to add a dog into the mix.

According to a new report, Gomez and her boyfriend are now the proud owners of an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Charlie, who is said to be hoping Gomez cope and heal with her recent kidney transplant.

“They’re super smart and sweet, and I can definitely understand why she would have one as an emotional support animal as they bring a lot of love and comfort and they cuddle very well,” Certified Dog Trainer Elisha Stynchula revealed to Hollywood Life on September 23. “The King Charles Spaniel is such a beautiful dog especially as puppies. And, they won’t get any larger than about 20 pounds, so again, they’re amazing for cuddling.”

“The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is bred to be a companion,” she explained of the breed’s behavior patterns. “I see that they are prone to separation anxiety because they bond very strongly with their humans. They’re essentially lap dogs, though they wouldn’t quite fall into the Toy category. Carrying it with her everywhere will make it tough for it to leave her if she ever needs to leave the house because they do get very attached.”

Gomez and The Weeknd are currently living together in Chelsea as she films the new Woody Allen movie and he continues to travel the world during his Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour.

Gomez stepped out with Charlie last week as she made her way out of her apartment.
